Alright. So could you also call this a reactive phase? This phase must have followed a strength phase; squats, deads, etc., am i correct?

Instead of looking at how long the achilles tendon is, you should be looking at the moment arm of the achilles tendon over the ankle joint. Smaller moment arms of the achilles tendon allow the Gastrocnemius and Soleus muscles to contract at a lower speed (assuming the angular speed of the ankle joint is equal). Since muscles can deliver more force when the concentric contraction speed is lower, this will enable your calf musculature to produce more force.

thanks...but ive sort of come to a conclusion of mine which im currently testing: when u run, ur pelvis should raise up and u should just use hip movement to run forward... i see many ppl doing a little bit of twisting and not rasing their pelvis.
im doing a simple exercise to utilize this pelvis movement and strengthen those muscles involved (everything comes from the hips and thats where ppl lack in power)

Obviously, the hip and knee extensors are going to contribute a lot more work. However, muscle activity does not result in translation, it results in rotation. In running, you want your body to translate, not rotate. Therefore, it is necessary to transfer work done over the hip joint, down to the ankle joint. It has been proposed that this is done by bi-articular muscles (like the Gastrocnemius). So, the moment arm of the Gastrocnemius is important in running.

you dont have to get all fancy with the wording lol
no, all i mean is that the most important movements should be in the hips (using the glutes to jump/run) and the knee muscles as support...
ill see next time i play basketball if ive gotten better at generating horizontal and vertical power/explosion

Dude I just got on 3rd shift at my warehouse job (Rice Factory)... it's 12am-8am and it's fuckin me up too. I'm not even going to bother working out Monday -Thursday but Friday/Sat and maybe Sunday I will hit it. But yea dude your internal clock just won't let you deal with it sleeping right when you get home for like 5 hours and hopefully getting some sleep before work.. it's just weird. So did you get on mornings then? I'm hoping to move there at some point but i had to take what i could get.

Also... did your warehouse job seem to help you recover from your jumper's knee? Maybe I am just now really starting to recover, but I can't help but notice since I started a there a week and a half ago my knee has made improvements. I don't know what the problem is... I have to wait to go to the doctor until November when my insurance kicks in... but yea man this job is making it feel better. I'm on my feet all day and the blood is always flowing so maybe that's it.

For the split deadlifts at 1:04 , have you tried that variant with the bar behind the lead leg (like directly under your center of gravity)? I could load the posterior chain more and probably allows for a more vertical back which, again, loads the posterior chain more.

I just saw this discussion. So you're saying a shorter moment arm is an advantage? I'm gonna need more of an explanation. You say slower contraction in the soleus and gastrucnemius allows them to develop more tension. That's true, but the important result (the angular speed at the ankle) stays the same, as you stated. So you get the same force production from your plantar flexion, but your muscles have to generate more tension to get it. That seems like a bad thing to me.

@jumptrainee1
I think you misunderstood me. I meant: when the angular speed of the ankle joint is similar, someone with a shorter moment arm will be able to produce higher force, due to having a lower contraction speed of the muscle. This higher force means a larger acceleration, resulting in higher angular speed of the ankle joint. Therefore, a smaller moment arm of the achilles tendon is beneficial.

@jumptrainee1
Obviously, there is a certain optimal moment arm, as moment arms nearing 0 will mean that the higher forces will not be converted to higher ankle joint moments. However, research has shown that this optimal moment arm of the achilles tendon is far less than the moment arms of the achilles tendon found in humans.
