Baskteball Training – 5 Jumps to Achieve Your Highest Vertical in Basketball

Every young athlete would love having the highest vertical in basketball; a goal which is somewhat unreasonable. There are two critical parts to your vertical leap, natural ability and practice. While nothing can change your ability, there are 5 jumps you can practice which will significantly improve your vertical jump.

 

Understand proficiently with these varieties of jumps.

 

The first jump you should practice in your quest for your highest vertical in basketball is simply jumping straight up off the floor. As soon as you jump, pull your toes up until you are ready to land. While you are in the air resist the urge to bend your knees; they need to stay straight. Before you reach the floor again, point your toes down, land on your toes and the ball of your foot and then jump right up again. Do this several times without stopping or letting your heels touch the floor.

 

For the next jump measure your highest vertical in basketball and find a box or stand the same height sturdy enough to hold your weight. Climb up on the stand and jump off, landing lightly on your toes without letting your heels touch. For this jump it’s ok to either bend your knees slightly when you land or to go into a full squat. If this height is easy, steadily increase it until the exercise becomes difficult.

 

The third jump for developing your highest vertical in basketball involves practicing a vertical using that same box or stand. The goal is to jump as high as possible onto the support and then immediately jump back off. Once again, as your leap gets taller you can increase the size of the stand you use.
