600 lb Deadlift – Coan/Phillipi Deadlift Program – Week 10 (at 226.6 lbs)
Just did one single today….I didn’t attempt a second single. 600 lbs was slower than I wanted, but it still went okay. I was able to keep my form in tact the whole lift, so I am happy with that. More importantly, I didn’t feel any discomfort in my back during or after the lift. So…onward and upward! That concludes this cycle of the Coan/Phillipi Deadlift Program. I will take a week or two off and then start all over again with the goal of 635 lbs. After hitting 600 lbs, I had some unfinished business with my Jump Stretch Platform and my monster mini’s…I couldn’t get 405 lbs awhile back, so I need to try this all over again. The lock-out on this rep was harder than the 600 lb lock-out. Here’s all I did today: Warm Up 135 lbs x 3 225 lbs x 2 315 lbs x 1 405 lbs x 1 (Video) 500 lbs x 1 (Video) Workset 1: 600 lbs x 1 Rep (15 lb PR & Video) Speed Work – Jump Stretch Platform with 4 Doubled-Up Monster Mini Bands: 225 lbs x 2 Reps 315 lbs x 2 Reps (Video) Max Effort Band Work: 405 lbs plus bands x 1 Rep (40 lb PR & Video)

Nice..
i pulled 530 for almost 4 reps, just barely missed the lockout by must’ve been literally like 4 inches. hopefully i’ll get to this weight soon at 175lbs.
I need help understanding this program….
Ya thats what I’m hearing. I also hear that converses are good for dead lifts too. On a side not have you seen the new nike “toe” shoes? I’m not sure if they are meant for all around use but its suppose to give the same effect of going barefoot.
Thanks…not really…I prefer to use a doubleoverhand set up and I can’t do that without straps. Not able to hook grip very well. Also, my focus was on building back/posterior chain strength here…not really worried about my grip at this stage. Although, I am fairly confident I would be pretty close to 600 lbs without the straps…

Ha, ha…thanks. Much appreciated…
Supposedly you are a little stronger without shoes because the cushion in the shoe absorbs some of your pulling/starting power. I also just prefer it…
Try it and see what you prefer…
I only did one session of the Coan program for deadlifts and I went from 550 lbs to 615 lbs. It is all documented on my channel. I haven’t really deadlifted since…
Thanks for the comments.
Also, after this session, the following week I did 500 lbs x 10, then the next week hit my real max for that peaking session at 615 lbs. Both videos are on my site. I haven’t really deadlifted much since, but maybe one of these days I will get back into it…
Thanks for the great comments bro. Always appreciated…
Tough to say how much I could have done without straps at this stage. I have done 500 lbs for an easy single with both mixed grips, but haven’t really tried heavier than that. I have also done 600 lbs without straps on the Oly Deadlift bar…so who knows. I like using straps because I feel stronger using a doubleoverhand grip, as opposed to a mixed grip. My body position just feels more stable…
Randy.. you are a freaking beast. One question though. How much do you deadlift without straps? One thing I have found to help me with grip issues is magnesium carbonite chalk. The first time I used chalk, my three rep deadlift total went up by 40lbs from the previous session. I was out of commission for awhile from a shoulder injury I got from squatting (impingement issues) so I am finally making my way back. Your vids always give me inspiration,
You need to keep your chest up! Your dropping your chest like crazy and your not using your legs!
WICKED VID BRO, WHAT IS A RUFF ESTIMATE OF THE AMOUNT OF WEIGHT INCREASE ON THE DEADLIFT AT THE COMPLETION OF EACH COAN DEADLIFT CYCLE? IM THINKING OF GIVING IT A TRY, IM PULLING 550 I WANNA GET 6 PLATES (585)
Does it make a big difference with or without the shoes?
I’m jealous!
No belt.. Impressive, have you tried not using straps?
Thanks bro – I appreciate that.
you always pick the best music for ur vids!!!
Just for fun at this stage…thanks for the comment.
Ha, ha…thanks.
hey just wondering do you do powerlifting compation or you just lift for fun anyway DAM GOOD JOB YOUR A BULL

Thanks bro – I did 615 lbs two weeks after this video. Now I am taking some time away from the big deadlift to get back to benching. But hopefully a 635 lb deadlift isn’t too far away (6 1/2 plates).
bar is loaded =p
Thanks bro. The most I lifted on the dead before starting this program was 550 lbs back in Nov of 2009. Then I kind of tweaked my back a bit and took some time off. Once my back felt better I started up this program and this is where I ended up. I am restarting this program this week with 600 lbs as a current max and 640 lbs as my end goal…
