4 Areas of Caution When Devising a Vertical Leap Workout Program
Improving the vertical leap ability of an athlete can give them great benefit in a number of different sports and athletic activities. There are a wide range of different sports which make use of the vertical leap as part of the game. In order to improve the distance that can be jumped vertically, it is important for an athlete to find a training program which specifically focuses on vertical jumping and the muscles needed to do so. It is advisable to be cautious when choosing a workout program as some are vastly superior to others.
Use Vertical Leap Training to Improve Your Game – but be safe!
One common type of vertical leap training program which should be avoided at all costs is one which offers a very select amount of exercises and simply increases the amount of these exercises carried out over an extended period of time. This isn’t a legitimate vertical leap training program.
The way in which many scam vertical leap training programs work is to tell an athlete to, for example, begin a program of jumping rope. This may take the format of doing so for five minutes in the first week, ten minutes in the second and so on. As the ability of the athlete increases over the weeks, they may be fooled into thinking the program is working, but in actual fact the program is merely working on a set exercise rather than on the many different muscles needed to jump vertically successfully.
Vertical Leap Training – Sets and Repetition
Another type of vertical leap workout program to avoid is one which focuses entirely on the amount of sets and repetitions of a certain exercise that the athlete can perform. These programs are of no use whatsoever. It is irrelevant how many sets of a certain exercise can be performed if these sets aren’t actually improving the muscles needed in a vertical jump situation.
Some workouts which claim to be beneficial to vertical jumpers encourage the athlete to work on their leg muscles each and every day. This is bad advice and is very harmful. A proper vertical jump training program will advise that leg muscles should only be worked on intensely every other day. It is actually during the rest days that the muscles rebuild and increase in size.
The final thing to avoid when seeking out a vertical leap training program is workouts which claim to be right for everyone. Every human body is different and each athlete should tailor the vertical leap training program they are using to the specific needs of their body and goals. Any workout program which promises dogmatic miracles should be treated as hype and avoided. A good vertical leap training program will have scope for individual customization as it progresses.
